A man who allegedly used a pair of scissors to stab another Berbice man to death has been charged with murder.
Ronald Fraser, 22, called ‘Alay’, of Liverpool Village, Corentyne, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Fabio Azore at the Whim Magistrate Court. He is accused of murdering Quacy Gray, 26, of Lot 20 Manchester Village, Corentyne, Berbice, last Friday. He was remanded to jail.
Gray, a farmer and a former canecutter at the Albion Estate, had left his residence and gone out to a bar at Liverpool Village around 22:00 hrs last Friday.
According to reports, Gray and the suspect had an altercation after he was accused of being an ‘informer’ and a ‘watchman’.
A fight eventually ensued during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Gray in the stomach with a pair of scissors before escaping. Gray was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital but succumbed on his way.
After the incident, Fraser had escaped but was eventually turned over to the police.
A post mortem examination, conducted on the body of Gray Tuesday at the New Amsterdam Hospital, revealed that he died from shock and hemorrhage from a stab wound.
Corporal Roberto Figueira appeared for the prosecution while attorney-at-law Mursaline Bacchus is representing the accused.
The matter will continue on January 30th.
