Police, after conducting a routine road block on the Essequibo Coast, have recaptured two more of the eight juveniles who had previously escaped from the New Opportunity Corps at Onderneeming.
Four who had earlier been recaptured were remanded to the institution, after undergoing counseling.
Two others are yet to be captured. The recent escape by the eight escapees, occurred on December 10. Reports indicated that the juveniles who were at the time in the institution’s compound escaped via the back entrance.
Police were subsequently alerted and conducted searches throughout the Coast.
While the lawmen came up empty handed, residents in Queenstown reportedly observed the escapees hanging out on the Queenstown seawall. A few days later the hungry and tired teens turned themselves in at the Suddie Police Station.
Officers alternatively proceeded to render counseling to the frustrated teens.
Meanwhile, while senior officers at NOC are maintaining that there is not an issue of security at the institution, many persons are questioning the frequency of the escapes by the juveniles.
