Former national player and Banks DIH Outdoor Events Manager, Mortimer Stewart, has agreed to roll back the years and will be making his appearance for their All Stars unit that is scheduled to face Santos in the feature clash of a double header in the Banks Beer Knockout Cup which resumes today, at the GFC ground.
Stewart is expected to team up with another former promising player in Seon McKenzie, while a bunch of other upcoming players will be in the line as they attempt to advance to the next stage at the expense of Santos.
Santos on the other hand has a rich history of producing high caliber players and even though they are going through a rebuilding phase on paper they have the talent that should see them through to the next round.
Stockily built mid-fielder Glenorvan Edmonds, a former national player, Jermaine Fraser, Michael Pedro, Shemroy Arthur, Gerald Whittington and Lerone Charles are all experience campaigners.
They should receive support from the likes of Ellery Williams and Michael Charles and that line-up should be capable enough to thwart any danger that the Banks All Stars unit might pose.
In the curtain raiser, hosts GFC playing on home turf should take care of Houston Stars, especially after benefitting from a competitive warm-up match against Black Pearl, whom they defeated 2-0.
Once again their attack will be led by Sekiou Browne and Hanson Fredericks and the pair has been a potent force this season.
Houston Stars could be considered as the minnows among the GFA and is not anticipated to pose a threat to the homesters, but who knows, the fact that they’ve been the whipping boys this season could generate the kind of determination that take some teams over the line.
The competition has been admirably supported by the football loving fans and with the best teams in Georgetown vying for the $3million first prize the players have responded to the support by producing top quality football.
The final is set for Jan 1, 2012, at the GCC ground.
