The Rotaract Club of New Amsterdam feted 91 students on Sunday on the Republic
Bank tarmac as part of its community service during this Christmas season.
According to Sunita Samaroo, Community Service Director of Rotaract New Amsterdam, the initiative commenced a few months ago whereby one person from a selected community sponsored a child from that community.
The sponsor pledged to take care of the child and provide whatever the child would have needed for school, etc. The children were selected from New Amsterdam, business- minded persons and other areas in Berbice.
The children at the party came from various orphanages, Angoy’s Avenue, Street children, Canje and Vryheid. Children were given presents and lunch. They also danced to the music provided.
