Ranks from “G” Division, on the Essequibo Coast on Saturday were rewarded with trophies and other monetary incentives, for their outstanding performance for this year.
The award ceremony was held at the Richard Fikal College, at Suddie. Among the special invitees was former Commander of “G” Division, Assistant Commissioner, Gavin Primo.
The award ceremony, which was the first of its kind in Essequibo, saw ranks from the Tactical Services Unit, detectives and traffic officers being rewarded for their exceptional performances from the beginning of 2011.
Addressing the ranks, Primo first expressed his appreciation for being a part of the historic award ceremony.
The former Commander, who served as the Division’s Top Cop on two occasions, said that a policeman is thoroughly assessed when the society he serves is enhanced. He also said that a policeman’s job is not an easy one.
While imploring ranks to always be conscious, Primo further cautioned officers that although the ceremony was a day for them to be appreciated, it was not the end.
He told ranks that the end is when Essequibo is made safe.
Primo said that while the Essequibo Region is known for its peculiarities, the ranks should remain focused and to work towards serving both Essequibo and Guyana for a safer society.
Sergeant Roderick English who was named Best Cop for the Division, was rewarded with a plaque and $150,000 for his exceptional service.
