After diligent investigation, Police are certain they have nabbed three perpetrators, among them a man and his reputed wife who are accused of breaking and entering a business place and stealing over $1M in cash and other items, including foreign Currency.
The trio, Irfaz Madeen, 22, and his reputed wife, Christine Hemraj, 21, both of 122 Couburgh Street, Cumberland, East Canje, and Doodnauth Bissondial, 18, of 135 King Street, Cumberland, are accused of breaking and entering the business place of S. Sattaur & Son Grocery and Lotto Outlet situated at Cumberland Public Road, East Canje Berbice on December 15, last
They trio were remanded to prison by magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, yesterday, when they appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court and were not required to plead.
Prosecutor Inspector Donna Grant Fraser asked that bail be refused given the nature and gravity of the crime. She also submitted that if granted bail the accused may tamper with the witnesses.
Attorney at law Charrandass Persaud in his bail request contended that they are no flight risk. He added that although the number one and number two accused are in a relationship they have no connection with the number three accused.
According to information Tilottma Sattaur had secured the business around 12:30 hrs to go out. On her return some time before 15:00 hrs, she found that the back door was broken open.
Upon checking she discovered that a few bags that contained money were missing. Phone cards were also missing. The police were informed and began their investigation. One perpetrator was picked up and subsequently led the cops to the man and his wife.
Some of the stolen booty has been recovered.
The case has been transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s court for Wednesday.
