Last Monday teams from the Riverain Villages of Pomeroon attended an elaborate presentation ceremony at the Zenon Hotel Restaurant and Bar in Anna Regina when the Rising Sun Cricket Club received a beautiful trophy and cash for winning the two month long Anand Sanasie sponsored Cricket Competition.
Pomeroon Oil Mills cop the second prize, while Friendship Super Kings and Devonshire Castle Cricket Club placed third and forth respectively. All Four teams received trophies and monetary rewards for their outstanding performances in the competition.
Mr. Ronald Kanhai, who scored 279 runs in the competition, received the Best Batsman award while Jeremy DeMattos walked away with both the Best Wicketkeeper and Man-of-the-Match (final) awards. The Best Bowler of the tournament was Arthur Melville, while the Man-of-the-series award went to Jeffery Henry. All of these players received monetary rewards for their impressive performances throughout the competition. The presentation ceremony was attended by officers of Region 2 and officials of the Guyana, Essequibo and Pomeroon cricketing bodies.
Mr. Pooran Persaud, from the regional administration office, thanked Mr. Sanasie for sponsoring the competition and expressed his gratitude for this gesture. He also stated that this tournament helped tremendously in community development and interaction.Mr. Anand Sanasie, who is the Honorary Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board, said that he was amazed at the interest shown and promised to continue sponsoring the tournament on a yearly basis.
