The Albion Community Centre is about to get a face lift courtesy of the Republic Bank, Rose Hall Branch and the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce.
On Thursday the bank through its manager Mr. Leon Mc Donald presented a Cheque of $100,000 to the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce which will be used by the Chamber to help with the general rehabilitation and refurbishing of the Albion Community Centre.
Republic Bank through its donation will be concentrating its effort in the repainting of some sections of the facility.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony Bank manager Mr. Mc Donald stated that as soon as they were approached by the Chamber and told of the venture they were more than happy to assist. He stated that Republic Bank has looked forward to opportunities to give back to the community and this is just one such opportunity.
The bank he said is always interested in being a part of any sports venture, because sports is always one of the activities that brings the community together.
Berbice he said has a very rich history in sports and they will do their part in helping to keep that legacy and to even enhance it more.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Chamber was President Imran Hamid.
Hamid thanked Republic Bank especially the Management and staff of the Rose Hall Town branch for responding to their call to assist in a worthwhile venture. Mr Hamid who was accompanied by other executives of the Chamber stated that the CCCC is always in the habit of serving the community and as parent body they will always try to give back to the community.
He stated that the Chamber is very grateful to the Community Centre for loaning them the facility to hold the annual Expo and trade fair and as such they are obligated to give back something in return.
The Chamber has also constructed two new gates and entrances at the facility which will enable patrons to have easier entry and exit to the facility. So far the business body has expended close to $1M dollars in expenses on the facility.
Currently work is ongoing on a Kitchen and recreational facilities at the Whim Police station. Early next year the Chamber will undertake the construction of two concrete sight screens at the now defunct Rose Hall Community in East Canje.
This initiative will be the first in a series of inventions that will be undertaken by the body and other civic minded organizations to help rehabilitate the once famous ground which has been abandoned by Guysuco.
Mr. Hamid also took the opportunity on behalf of the Chamber to wish everyone a happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
