The chuckles in the courtroom were almost endless after the gathering heard that a man and woman were charged for stealing two chicken burgers worth $1,200 from Jerries Restaurant and Bar.
Gregory Blair of 165 Charlotte Street appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Friday, charged with simple larceny while his alleged accomplice, Latoya Barnwell, was absent throughout the hearing.
The persons who the court heard were employees at the said restaurant, were charged after they allegedly stole the burgers on December 12.
According to the prosecution, Blair, who was at the time off duty, ordered the burgers from the organization and refused to pay. Subsequently the woman was alleged to have assisted the man in taking the item since she, being the cashier at the time, did not press for the man to pay for the item, nor did she inform security that the man had taken the food.
Blair pleaded not guilty to the charge while a summons was ordered for the woman to be present on the next occasion.
The magistrate directed that the defendant along with the female be released on their own recognizance. She asked Blair to return to court on January 27.
