Christmas at Dharma Shala

Dharm Shala, a Non- Governmental Organization, on Tuesday last, received a cash donation of $250,000 from the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG).
The Dharm Shala was founded by Ramsaroop Maharaz in 1921 and caters for the homeless.
According to a representative from CIOG, the organization has been working with the Dharm Shala for quite some time and tends to make timely and regular contribution to the foundation.
To date, the Dharm Shala has some 40 persons living in but it feeds around 140 persons per day since vagrants and poor persons “come here to eat”.
Fazeel M. Ferouz, president of the CIOG noted that Dharm Shala has similar objectives to the CIOG in providing assistance to the needy members of the society.
He added that rendering assistance to the poor and needy is a pillar of Islam. “Therefore we are pleased to perform our duty as Muslims and make this monetary donation,” the president stated.
This publication understands that the administration of the Dharm Shala provides housing and food to the less fortunate and caters for people of all races. The NGO mainly depends on the public for financial assistance.
