Organisers of this year’s ‘Guinness Greatest in da Streets’ must be extremely encouraged by the large turnout of fans that thronged the National Park to witness the finals which was staged on Friday evening.
In the Open final, Back Circle registered an impressive 5-2 triumph over West Front Road to be crowned new champions and $500,000 richer, while the losing finalist took away $300,000.
In the playoff for third place, Alexander Village edged Island All Stars 2-1 to take home $150,000, while the losers pocketed $50,000.
In the Entertainment championship game, Guinness Bar squeezed past Upper Level Barber Shop 1-0 to grab the top prize of $100,000 with $50,000 being awarded to the losing finalist.
Clippers Barber Shop beat the Media 3-1 to claim the third prize of $25,000 with the Media taking home $15,000.
Played before a large crowd, Back Circle, runners-up in the same group with West Front Road in the preliminary phase, took the lead in the 8th minute through Daniel Favourite, who returned three minutes later to stretch their advantage to stun the opposition supporters.
Playing an attacking brand of football, Back Circle consistently kept West Front Road on the defensive and their neat interchanges was a constant bother with Favourite and Bentick combining beautifully.
Favourite netted his third goal in the 18th minute, before West Front Road Michael Oie pulled back one in the 20th minute.
However, Back Circle were in a relentless mode and Bentick netted three minutes after and his effort was followed by Favourite’s fourth goal in the 26th minute, before Hubert Pedro scored West Front Road’s second goal two minutes from full time.
In the third place playoff, Shem Porter’s brace ensured that Alexander Village took home a sizeable portion of the prize money.
Porter’s efforts came in the 23rd and 28th minutes of play, while Devon Porter made the lone response for Island All Stars.
In the exhibition section, Denis Edwards of Guinness Bar lone strike was enough to hand them victory.
A hat-trick by Clippers Barber Shop Jermaine White (6th, 8th and 23rd min) was enough to send the Media crashing to defeat.
Chris Camacho 3rd minute strike had given the Media an early lead.
