As the holiday season draws closer, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at Timehri was a packed place to be yesterday with five large planes on the ground and no place in the parking lot for visitors and others. Officials of the airport were forced to allow parking on the road leading to the Control Tower, south of the terminal. On the ground, there were two Caribbean Airline planes, a Redjet, one Delta and new charter, Ezjet which is flying the Guyana/New York route.

While this is very exciting news, that a great number of visitors are returning home for the holidays,i hope the government have put in place, security measure to ensure the safety of all.Happy holidays to the people of Guyana.
i think dem “brite bois” have term dem use to describe this ,, it’s called ammm…. emerging economy ,, if is nat dat ,,, den is ,, economic progress ,, but nat fum de GUYANA end ,, rather it’s from when de planes emerging….. yuh know come to think seriously abt this i would guh out on a twig an call um both !!!! wat y’al think ??????????????????
All I can say is “wow”. I cannot recall the last time I saw five aircraft on the ground at Timehri at the same time. I guess Guyanese are heading home for the holidays regardless of who won the elections. Wish I was one of them. Now I can imagine how the airport will look if the massive expansion project goes ahead.
I guess everyone coming home for some pepper pot and black cake.Something you sure miss once away and the feeling of Christmas in Guyana. Regardless of where we are ,Guyana will always be our home.
good news
This shows that things are happening for the economy.
Just extend the parking lot.
Has the capacity of the Guyana Fire Service been increased, both in terms of personnel and equipment to handle this increase activity at the airport. I am told that the practice of the fire service being on fire guard was stopped by the airport authority citing the weight of the firetrucks damaging the access tarmac and to cut down on the cost of fuel the firetrucks uses to come from the fire station to the aircraft parking apron to stand fire guard. In addition there is only an average of seven ranks on duty at any given time at this fire station, with no ambulances available. In view of the above may we all say a prayer that nothing happens. however it is a beautiful sight to the see the airport parking lot so full and (2) 737-800 jets, (1) 757 Jet and (1) 767 jet sitting on the parking apron, In all my years as a firefighter at Timehri have I ever seen such a situation.
Expansion is sure needed, as this is how the airport should look, like it’s doing business. pepper pot, garlic pork, ginger beer, and homemade bread.
I’m so loving this ……………..shows that Guyana is developing..more travel, more economic development………….. now we lookign like the big airports, like Heathrow, Gatwick, JFK……….
