‘Bloodied Tuesday’ must not go down as just another day-Youth Coalition Transformation

The Youth Coalition Transformation (YTC) has called for Tuesday December 6, 2011 not to go down as just another day in Guyana’s history.
On that day several protestors shot with rubber bullets by members of the Guyana Police Force. More than 16 people received injuries to several parts of their bodies.  The organization assured that the incident will not be pushed under the table, as it intends to ensure that justice in this matter is obtained.
“We pledge that we will not stand idly by and watch this dangerous state of affairs to continue…so far we have heard no condemnation from the Private Sector Commission, nor the Guyana Times, nor NCN on this atrocity.”
Youth Coalition for Transformation joined the call by other organizations for an independent and impartial investigation into what it described as “this grave act of terror.”
“We are dissatisfied with the rhetoric coming out of the Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene, and the Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, on this matter. Their decision to blame the junior ranks for unleashing terror on innocent citizens cannot be taken seriously…Minister Rohee must know that as the subject Minister responsible for the safety and security of citizens, the buck stops at him, he must therefore, take full responsibility and resign forthwith.”
The organization added that Commissioner Greene’s comments about the shooting being unfortunate is despicable and unbecoming, and called on him also to resign immediately.
Further the youth body said that the decision by the police to bring charges against the very people whom they violated and unleashed terror on is nothing short of bold arrogance.
“YCT will therefore, pay close attention to this case as it continues to press for an impartial investigation into this travesty”.
