A porter employed at the Haags Bosch dumpsite behind Eccles Industrial site, East Bank Demerara was crushed to death shortly after 14:00 hrs yesterday by a disposal truck in one of the garbage pits.
Sources identified the victim as Clive Chisholm but were unable to ascertain his age or address.
The facility was quickly ordered shutdown until police complete their initial investigations.
This publication has been able to confirm reports that Chisholm was killed in a section of the dumpsite operated by BK International.
Kaieteur News understands that the 54-year-old truck driver has told police that Chisholm had come off the truck to urinate when he met his death.
According to reports, the driver, who has been detained, alleged that he was reversing when he accidentally ran over Chisholm, crushing his skull and other parts of his body.
When this publication visited the scene, BK security personnel immediately ordered that the media be removed from the facility.
The official who refused to divulge his name was said to be acting on instruction from functionaries in the Local Government Ministry and this was confirmed by Senior Government Engineer Walter Willis who when contacted confirmed that that he had issued the order to shut down the dumpsite.
The body was subsequently removed to the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
