A 25 year-old gold miner of Dog Point, Greater Bartica was murdered while at a shop at Issano, Middle Mazaruni
on Wednesday last.
The man has been identified as 25 year-old Carl Francis.
According to reports out of the area, Francis had gone to a Winfield shop to make a purchase when he was attacked by a man identified as ‘Buddy’. The incident occurred sometime around 21:00 hours in full view of other person who failed to render assistance. There are reports that the suspect who has since been detained always prowls the landing with a knife and is deemed to be mentally ill.
On the night in question this publication was told that ‘Buddy’ first attacked Francis while the victim was in the shop. After receiving two stabs wounds under his left arm, Francis fled from the shop with his attacker in full pursuit.
Eyewitnesses said that ‘Buddy’ caught up with Francis and continued stabbing the miner who eventually collapsed.
Buddy was eventually accosted as the injured man was taken to the community medical centre where he was treated for his injuries. He succumbed later that night.
Late yesterday afternoon police ranks who had travelled into the area returned to Bartica with the suspect and the victim’s body. A source close to the investigation told this publication that ‘Buddy’ in his defence said that he was provoked while persons in the area said there was no confrontation between the two men.
Meanwhile, this publication was told that some four years ago ‘Buddy’ killed a man in a similar manner. It is unclear whether he was charged .
