Bakery Giants Bakewell, has maintained its support of the most successful team in the 22-year history of the annual Kashif & Shanghai knock-out football extravaganza, Bakewell Topp XX and Bakewell Buxton Stars.
The entity has made a timely injection of financial and other assistance to the respective clubs ahead of their participation in this year’s edition of the tournament which is set to continue today at the GCC Ground, Bourda with another double header.
Bakewell Topp XX are Eight time finalists and Five time champions and will be seeking to go all the way for the sixth time; this is the 14th year that Bakewell has been supporting Topp XX perhaps the longest such club sponsorship in Guyana.
Bakewell Buxton Stars has been benefitting from the benevolence of the company for the past four years and will be aiming to put on a much improved performance in this year’s competition.
General Manager of Bakewell Rajin Ganga in brief remarks at yesterday’s handing over ceremony which took place at the company’s Triumph, East Coast Demerara, Head Office, said that they will continue to support both clubs and was looking forward to them {clubs} maintaining a high level of discipline on and off the field of play.

Ganga noted that discipline is a key ingredient towards success and wished them both success this year.
Topp XX will face off with Seawall FC in their opening game on Sunday at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground, West Coast Demerara as they battle for a place in the round-of-16. Buxton Stars will also be on show on Sunday in the opening game taking on Den Amstel also for a place in the round-of-16.
Representing Kashif & Shanghai was Public Relations Officer Jamie-Lee Charles who thanked Bakewell for their continued confidence in both clubs and the tournament over the years. She said that Bakewell’s investment in the clubs has resulted in the development of dozens of players who have gone on to represent their respective associations and Guyana.
Charles also reminded that apart from Bakewell’s investment in the clubs they have been supporting the tournament in a more direct way as well as making it possible for thousands of school children to attend the matches by donating tickets to the Ministry of Education.
Play today will see BK International Western Tigers coming up against Amelia’s Ward in the main event with the curtain raiser between Grove Hi Tec and Netrockers from 18:30hrs.
