won from St. Stanislaus Secondary School last year when the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport stages the fourth Annual National Schools’ Chess Championship from December 17-18 at the National Stadium, Providence EBD.
The tournament is open to chess players of public and private institutions and would be contested in an individual and team category. Each school may enroll players in either the ‘A’ or ‘B’ team which consists of four players per team. The competition would also entertain an individual category for players unable to comprise a team. Participation is free but players must be attired in their school uniform for the duration of the tournament.
Players in possession of tournament sized sets are asked to take them along since a limited number would be available at the venue. Participating schools are advised to engage in registration by contacting GCF officials Vishnu Rampersaud (628-8267), Irshad Mohammad (664-1650) or Shiv Nandalall (225-8270). Schools outside of Georgetown interested in participating may contact the GCF officials for relevant information.
