The battle in the 77th Birthday Inter Ward, Street and Village Knockout football fiesta for Mayor Hamilton Green concluded Monday evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda with Leopold Street conquering Western A 2-1 in the final to cop the Body Max sponsored first prize of $200,000 to hand the former the International Guyanese entertainer Eddie Grant second prize of $100,000.
The games which lasted for thirty minutes with the ‘no offside rule’ in effect saw Western A and Leopold Street advancing to the finals without worries in the Semi-finals to have a bitter face-off with each other. Western A were able to surmount Reggae Boys 1-nil, while Leopold Street faith was decided by sudden death penalties after they played to a stalemate in regulation time. West Front Road clawed Leopold Street 1-0 in the Semi-finals.
In the preliminary rounds of the football fiesta for that evening, O’Kenie Fraser and Shemroy Arthur marked the winning goals for Leopard Street against Kuru Kururu. The clash concluded with a 3-1 defeat with Fraser scoring a double and Arthur a single; Ryan Scott was the only scorer for Kuru Kururu.
North East La Penitence were beaten 1-0 by Reggae Boys. West Front Road and Alexander Village also had the same results as North East La Penitence and Reggae Boys, only difference with their game (West Front Road and Alexander Village) was that it was a more thrilling sudden death. West Front Road were given the victory after Alexander Village striker failed to break the equalizer (1-1). West Front Road striker completed the task to end the sudden death after netting the final goal (2-1).
Mocha were also defeated 2-1 by Western A in the quarter-finals Monday evening.
