With Christmas right around the corner the Salvation Army presented Christmas
hampers to vulnerable persons yesterday to bring in the holiday spirit.
Hundreds gathered at the Citadel Corps, South Road and Alexander Street, Georgetown to participate in the distribution of goods.
The Salvation Army had approximately 1,000 hampers for persons from low income and no income, the elderly and single parents that registered to participate in the event.
According to Divisional Commander for the Salvation Army in Guyana, Major Vilo Exantus, it was the donations placed in the Christmas Kettle that helped finance today’s programme.
Major Exantus added that the Salvation Army is greatly involved in promoting the well being of vulnerable persons. “We visit prisons, hospitals, orphanages and other institutions bearing gifts for the holidays.”
He continuously thanked the businesses and ordinary persons who were charitable enough to invest in this event.
Advisory Board Chairman, Edward Boyer, praised Major Exantus for a job well done being that it was his first year as Divisional Leader in Guyana. Boyer said that the media has done a great duty to society by bringing awareness to the public on the many endeavors of the Salvation Arm.
“The coverage has attracted many companies to invest in our cause making it easier for us to do even more for those in need.”
This is the first of many events planned by the Salvation Army and the body hopes to continue advancing its work locally and globally.
