Eight students who are residents of the New Opportunity Corps at Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, reportedly escaped over the weekend.
The students who were committed to the correctional institution for various offences, reportedly escaped from the compound on December 10, during the morning hours.
According to reports, some of the escapees did not get far and reportedly opted to surrender by reporting to the Suddie Police Station.
Others were seen on the Queenstown Sea Wall, while yet others were seen by villagers in Queenstown trying to solicit meals from residents.
Some people who did not recognise the students were uncompromising. Earlier this year another four students had escaped from the institution.
Essequibians who were alerted of the recent episode are questioning the level of security at the institution.
