Some 250 senior citizens from various homes received meals and gifts from the Bernice Mansell Foundation, a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), on Sunday, at Banks DIH ground, Thirst Park.
According to Bernice Mansell, the founder of the NGO, her foundation has been providing meals and gifts to seniors in various homes for the past 10 years.
The annual event saw seniors singing and dancing, while others were seen forming groups and interacting with others.
Mansell explained that various companies made timely contributions to support her mission of giving seniors a wonderful Christmas party. She added that Banks DIH donated ice creams, and New Thriving gave fried rice.
One senior told this publication how happy she was and stated that it had been years since she danced.
For most seniors it’s a once-a-year opportunity where they get to come out, socialize and enjoy a wonderful event.
Christmas is a season during which families plan get- togethers and spend the moment with each other but for most seniors, they spend the day alone, looking and reminiscing on the days they celebrated the event with their loved ones.
