AFC’s performance in Region Two should have been better

Dear Editor,
The elections are over, and although the accuracy of the results are still being questioned in some quarters, the changes that are likely to take place at the level of the National Assembly are welcomed by most people and as such, are the subject of discussion throughout the country.
As a representative of the Alliance For Change in Region 2, I am not satisfied with the party’s performance in this region, although I may not be totally dissatisfied. In 2006, the AFC received 1722 votes, in 2011, 2159 votes, an increase of more than 25 per cent, but my personal view is that we in his region should have done better, and I would like to see the National Executive Committee conduct an investigation in this region.
The Alliance For Change will certainly be the party that much attention and focus will be on. The Leader, Mr. Raphael Trotman, and the Chairman, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan, have both become household names in Guyana, and I am certain that the AFC will deliver and not disappoint. Having said that, there were a few who may have liked to see the AFC disappear, and the first person that comes to mind is Mr Joey Jagan, I can remember him saying that after November 28th, the AFC would disappear from the political arena, and Guyanese would ask the question, “Khemraj who?” meaning that the name Ramjattan would no longer be relevant to the politics of this country. While I agree that everyone has a right to express his/her opinion, there are times when I wonder how people‘s analysis can be so flawed.
I can assure Mr .Joey Jagan that contrary to what he would have liked to see or expected, the AFC is getting bigger, better and stronger, and Guyanese have already started to ask, “Joey who?”
