Several persons received injuries after a route 44, minibus BKK 7359 and a car contracted to Stabroek News PKK 8391 collided at the intersection of Camp and Lamaha Streets, Cummingsburg yesterday.
Three persons were taken by another minibus to the Georgetown Public Hospital while the others were assisted with other vehicles. One person was listed as seriously injured.
Reports reveal that the minibus was heading to the East Coast filled with passengers while the car was heading east on Lamaha Street to Kitty. The minibus reportedly raced through the traffic light when both collided. The minibus turned turtle and landed in a nearby canal. The minibus uprooted a traffic light before coming to rest.
The car then lost control and slammed into a nearby utility pole injuring the driver and the other occupant.
“I wanted to know if is picture story I seeing; the bus pitch up in the air,” one eyewitness said.
One resident said the close circuit cameras at the intersection should be reviewed before any charges are made pertaining to the accident.
“I don’t know why these minibus driver play with people’s lives. They feel they own the road and passengers accept the craziness they behave with. People should take down their number plates and carry them to the police station when they see then speeding,” one irate man at the scene of the accident said.
Police arrived at the scene and removed both vehicles after questioning the witnesses.
