Young Warriors and Maryville recorded victories as the Kishan Bacchus Construction Company, Leguan Cricket Committee twenty\20 competition continued last Sunday in the Essequibo river island.
Playing at Enterprise ground, in the first match Young Warriors defeated Rebels by 5 wickets. Rebels batted first in front of a fair size crowd and struggled against the bowling of Tyrone Narine 2-14 and Oudit Narine 2-25 as they were bowled out for 98 in 14.3 overs. Suresh Roop was their leading run getter with 25, while Rameshwar Oudit offered support with 23.
Tyrone Narine then led the Young Warriors chase with a top score of 33 and Steve Persaud assisted with 18. Raymond Nandram claimed 2-14 for Rebels.
In the second encounter, Maryville overcame Satro by 5 wickets. Taking first turn at the crease Satro could only muster 78 before they were skittled out in 13 overs with Zaheer Razack and Shazaad Razack getting 18 and 12 respectively. Chetram Rabindra was the pick of the bowlers for Maryville with 3-10, while Aseeb Khan and Ryan Jacobs picked up 2 each.
Maryville then responded with 79-5 in 15.3 overs. Khan crowned a fine game by top scoring with 31 while Jacobs made 11. Essequibo pacer Kevin Gordon captured 2-14. The competition continues on Sunday. Maryville and Young Warriors both lead the points table with 8 points from 3 games respectively followed by Satro on 4, Rebels 2 and Falcons 2 from 2 games each. The top team from the preliminary round will qualify for the final while the second and third place teams will clash in the lone semi. (Zaheer Mohamed)
