Chandra Narine Sharma faced the court once again to hear the date for the commencement of his trial into the alleged obstructing the course of justice charge held against him. By his side also charged with the same offence were associate and family member, Raywattie Ramsaywack and Doodnauth Sharma.
The popular television owner and Leader of Justice for All Party along with his associates were told to return to court on January 9. They appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
This obstruction charge stemmed from a carnal knowledge matter against Sharma accused of being involved with a 12-year-old. Police are contending that the three persons willfully attempted to obstruct the course of justice when they removed two girls at the centre of the initial allegations from their known address to a house at Golden Grove East Bank Demerara, so that they would not be questioned by investigating officers.
Some time last year, Sharma collapsed in the prisoner’s chute after being denied bail. He had to be rushed to the hospital. His then lawyer, Vic Puran, had indicated that the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant had tampered with witnesses.
Sharma still on bail will return to court in the New Year to answer the matter against him.
