The Embassy of Venezuela and the Venezuela Institute in collaboration with the Women with Power Organization held its eighth graduation ceremony where over 400 women and disabilities received certificates, yesterday.
The ceremony was held at the Theatre Guild, Kingston. Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Jennifer Webster; Administrative Officer of National Commission on Disability, Beverly Pyle; President of the Organization “Women with Power”, Judy Kanhai; and the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Dario Morandy, were there to witness the event.
For the past three years the institute has been involved with forming groups around Guyana where women can go and participate in the courses offered.
To date training centres are located in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, Tuschen, West Coast Demerara, and Kuru-Kururu, East Bank Demerara.
The programme is a three-month course during which participants receive training in 19 different areas that include such as knitting, floral designs and embroidery.
The main aim of the training session is to make women in various areas independent.
Minister of Human Service and Social Security, Jennifer Webster said, “I firmly believe every woman has a major role to play in the development of the country”.
They should aim for the best. “The sky is the limit,” Webster noted.
To date, more than 2000 women have been trained since 2009.
