Philomena Sahoye- Shury is convinced that someone is out to harm her.
She made these allegations after someone lobbed an incendiary device at her Section ‘K’ Campbellville residence early yesterday morning.
The device, a Molotov cocktail (channa bomb), landed near a flower pot close to the garage and exploded but damage was minimal.
A visibly shaken Sahoye-Shury related that her nephew woke her around 12:15hrs after he heard the explosion.
The security detail also heard the explosion and upon investigating discovered the device in the yard. By then the intruder had disappeared.
The PPP stalwart opined that the intruder appeared to know the location of the security cameras and was able to avoid detection.
The police later arrived and conducted preliminary enquiries and have subsequently promised to carryout a full investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, Ms Sahoye-Shury believes that the attacks are politically motivated. She deemed the recent attack an act of terror.
She also hopes that the lawmen crack the case as no one was arrested following similar attacks in January and March.
“These people are cowards but I am not afraid,” Ms Shury staunchly proclaimed. She maintains that during her 50 years of political activism she had dealt fairly with the many people that approached her for assistance.
“I have never discriminated against anyone while executing my duties,” she said.

She has never discriminated against anyone while executing her duties. Could that be the reason for the attacks on her where the opposition would be blemed?

Yes, I hope whosever it is is caught, but given the way the gpf is i don’think they can even catch a fresh cold.

Stories like these are scarring visitors and other people to visit and returning to Guyana when would we have a good security system to investage and protect its citizens .

As a daughter watching and reading this, I am totally devastated by this wilful act of terrorism. Regardless of your political affiliation, one does not indulge in terrorism,especially on an elderly woman.
What would killing her achieve other than more violence.
To think that Guyanese will stoop this low puts Guyanese in the same arena as some of the violent mid east conflicts.
What one needs to realize is that many professional Guyanese left Guyana becauseof this nonsense, the country went downhill after the exodus.
Guyanese have returned to help their country and now this terrorism continues, Guyanese professionals will leave again and where wil lGuyana be. Remember history has ways of repeating itself. Think about that the next time one wants to be a terrorist.
The Guyana Police also need to do their jobs and do it well. Oh!! and what happened to the guards at the house, were the asleep at midnight????

What also is not realized is that the world is watching and it makes it difficult to get help from 1st world nations when terror is involved.

As a daughter , a mother and a human being, I offer my sincere empathy that Ms Sahoye-Shury is well and will be well and the authorities find the perpetrators

I am at a lost to explain how during this election period only the PPP billboards and their representatives have been targets, also how all of the election ruckus has been caused by PPP members and their associates.
