Columbus Joseph, 21, of Jumbie Creek, Potaro was yesterday remanded to jail after it was alleged that he had a gun in his possession without being the holder of a firearm license. Joseph, apparently not fluent with the English language, was unable to plead to the charges against him.
The arresting police rank had to indicate to the court that the man only comprehended when he was spoken to at a slow pace.
The magistrate subsequently entered a not guilty plea for the defendant. He was said to have been arrested with a .32 Taurus revolver in his possession. The land dredge operator is expected to make his appearance at the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court scheduled for January 18.
