Two suspected bandits’ luck ran out after they crashed into the rear of a minibus on
Middleton Street, Kitty, and were apprehended by off duty policemen in a car yesterday.
The episode occurred at approximately 10:30hrs. Persons watched as the two bloodied men were nabbed after fleeing from Beterverwagting Public Road, ECD.
Onlookers surrounded the vehicle where the men, one with one leg, pleaded with police officers to release them. While the police searched for a firearm they were believed to have in their possession, the men called out numbers to pedestrians asking them to contact their relatives.
Both men were on a blue scooter when they sustained injuries after crashing into a minibus in their attempt to elude the police. One suspect’s injuries were visible around his face and chest while the other’s wounds were mainly to his arms.
One of the injured men sat in the back of the police vehicle arguing that “Me ent do nothing. I see a gun out of de car and decide fuh ride away.”
According to reports, there were three men on two motorcycles that were fleeing from the police with two bags. The police caught up with the motorcycles on Sheriff Street, but one of the men rode away. The police pursued the other two men and arrested them on Middleton Street.
Ranks chased behind the pillion rider who was seen throwing away a bag as he ran. The bag was later discovered, containing an unlicensed .32 pistol with 12 matching rounds.
It was speculated that a missing bag of money was with the third accomplice since it was not discarded with the firearm and ammuntion.
Reports revealed that police responded to a report received that three men on two motor cycles had robbed a minibus driver at Beterverwagting Public Road, ECD.
The two men were taken to Eve Leary for further questioning.
