Banks DIH FC scored to convincing 4-1 win over Grove Hi Tech to capture the inaugural
The victorious Banks Football team is all smiles after defeating Grove Hi Tec in the final of the EBFA/Coca Cola Senior League.
Banks DIH/Coca Cola sponsored senior league organised by the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) which was contested on Wednesday evening at the Banks DIH Thirst Park Ground.
Leading the Beverage Giants team to a convincing victory was striker Devon Ford who netted a hat-trick as the home team took control of the match as early as the 29th minute when Ford found the back of the nets for the opening strike.
The diminutive forward struck again three minutes before the half time whistle to give his team a 2-0 cushion.
Grove Hi Tech, former EBFA champions and one of the 20 teams that will be competing in the 22nd edition of the Kashif and Shanghai tournament finally got their game going on the resumption, sending their opponents on the defensive. This period of dominance yielded Grove’s first goal when John Matthews converted in the 48th minute, lobbing the ball over the head of the advancing Banks goalkeeper to reduce the deficit.
Ford continued his dream run in the game when he blasted his third goal in the 71st minute to restore the 2-goal advantage. The game was placed beyond the reach of the hapless Grove side in the 74th minute when Peter Parks added his name to the score-sheet with a goal of his own; Banks FC 4 Grove Hi Tec 1.
Six yellow cards were issued by referee Miguel Vieira who gave Grove Hi Tech’s Kevin Alleyne a red card for a second bookable offence.
The match was witnessed by Coca Cola Brand Manager Jennifer Khan, Banks DIH Outdoor Events Manager Mortimer Stewart, Communications Manager Troy Peters and top officials of the East Bank Football Association including, President Wayne Francois.
The Presentation of prizes to the outstanding teams and players will take place at a date to be announced shortly.
