Matters pertaining to the appointment of Speaker of the National Assembly, corruption, good governance, radio licenses and other issues are to be discussed soon between the Alliance For Change (AFC) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) who share the majority of seats collectively in Parliament, according to Chairman of the AFC Khemraj Ramjattan.
Ramjattan added that the party met with President Donald Ramotar and PPP/C representatives on Tuesday evening at the invitation of Dr. Roger Luncheon.
He said the AFC team that visited the President included Executive members David Patterson, Dominick Gaskin and Gerhard Ramsaroop.
Ramjattan said the discussions were cordial and issues that included GECOM and the reactions by police towards protesters were also discussed.
He said the issue of parliament being convened early was discussed since Government’s intention is to begin parliament at the end of January 2012.
Adding that matters pertaining to a common ground on their manifesto were also raised, Ramjattan said one such was the procurement commission being established within the first four months of the convening of parliament.
He continued; “We would like the three parties to meet all together and at the same place and venue as early as possible to deal with these matters.”
Ramjattan also said that President Ramotar is recommending Senior Counsel Ralph Ramkarran to be reinstated as Speaker of the National Assembly, while the APNU has listed Attorney at Law Deborah Backer and the AFC has proposed Raphael Trotman or Moses Nagamootoo.
