…get three years in prison
Two men who greeted police ranks at the home of a man whose house they had broken into have been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment each for break and enter and larceny.
The two men Delon Adams, 22, of Lot 2 Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, and 19-year-old Jason Lammy, of 26 Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara, appeared at the Providence Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Leslie Sobers.
On Monday Lammy and Adams broke into the dwelling place of Deoram Ramsarup, at lot 544 Block ‘Y’ Section ‘C’ Golden and stole $12,500 in cash, one gold ring worth $40,000, two gold chains worth $140,000, two gold bands worth $80,000, one haversack and $98,500 worth of Digicel phone cards. They both pleaded guilty.
Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that on the day in question Ramsarup secured his house and went to Georgetown to conduct business. Upon his return around 14:30 hours, he noticed that the southern wooded door to his house was open. The prosecutor added that the man immediately informed the police who responded promptly.
According to Daniels, the ranks and Ramsarup then went to the front door and rapped. The court was told that Lammy opened the front door only to be confronted by the police. It was further stated that the ranks and the home owner began to search the house. They found Adams hiding in a wardrobe. Both men were arrested and charged.
After the facts were presented the Magistrate then enquired from the accused why they broke into the man’s house. Adams told the court that he is a mason and that he went to Diamond to seek employment.
“I look in de yard and I see a bird cage and I wanted the cage so I went in the yard and when I reach in the yard I see that de door de easy fuh open.”
Much to the amusement of the Magistrate and court Adams added that he then decided go into the house and ‘things just start packing up’.
His co-accused then told the court that he just followed his friend into the yard as he too wanted a bird cage. Once in the yard Lammy said he followed Adams into the house.
