The ranks attached to the Police ‘B’ Division headquarters and the Central Police Station

in Forbes Burnham Street, New Amsterdam, including the Commander and his deputy, are set to have life easier following the installation of running water in the building after more that 15 years without the commodity.
Ranks had to fetch water from home and other places for their use and consumption.
This lease in life was realized through the collaborative effort of The Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA), the Station management committee and the management of the Central Police Station outreach programme.
Running water was lacking in the two-storey ‘B’ Division Headquarters building. Among the work undertaken was the building of a trestle, and the installation of two black tanks, water pumps and other fittings.
The initiative is also part of a more comprehensive project being undertaken to beautify the surroundings and upgrade the facilities to make life more comfortable for ranks. Work has already being completed on the Central Police station Recreational Centre and the Police Recreational Hall.
According to President of the BCCDA, bank manager Imran Saccoor, and Chairman of the station management committee, businessman Errol Azar their organizations are happy to be a part of the initiative and will work to bring unison between the police and the community.
They also pledge to continue to work to help the police improve their lives away from home. The men were high in praise for the coordinator of the police operation outreach programme, Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan, who has been very instrumental and cooperative in working together to have the projects complete.
