Noble House Seafoods 2nd division two-day cricket
Action in the Noble House Seafoods 2nd division cricket competition continued over the weekend with GYO hosting UG.
Host Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) won the toss against University Of Guyana (UG) and decided to take first use of the pitch. They accumulated 217 all out from 60.1 overs. The principal scorers were Kumar Singh 66, Shivinand Roopnarine 46, Shivishwar Sankar 22 and Derrick Koulen chipped in with 19.
The wicket takers for UG were left arm former Demerara Inter County player Damion Vantull 5/45 from 23 overs, Medium pacer Darnell Douglas was economical on the small ground while taking 2/22 from 11.1 overs, Off Spinner Dennis Heywood captured 2/31.
UG in their turn at the crease amassed a massive 376/9 declared from 73 overs. Clevon Hyman stroked a masterful unbeaten 160 decorated with 22 fours and 2 sixes. Useful contributions also came from Melroy Stephenson Jr 69, Godfrey Thakurdin 59 and Heywood show cased his allround abilities with a classy 38.
The main wicket taker was Roopnarine with 3/35 bowling his off breaks. With a deficit of 159 GYO in their 2nd innings were able to score 197/9 off 54 overs when a draw was agreed upon by the captains.
Abdul Rahim & Pravendalall Persaud both made 59. Vantull capped off a fine game by capturing 6/66 to end with match figures of 11/111, he was supported by Dwayne Dodson who got 2/37.
