Over 75 horses entered
Most of the top Jockeys in the country will be on show for the Port Mourant Turf Club Annual one day Pre Christmas Horses race meet set for this Sunday December 11 at the Port Mourant Turf Club beginning at 13:00hrs.
The overseas charge will be lead by Jamaicans Andron Findlay and Brian Blake and Trinidadians Arthur Padmore and Neal Mohammed who have all been in Guyana for sometime and are set to throw down the gauntlet against the top Guyanese based Jockeys.
Leading rider and champion jockey for the last three meets Yap ‘Old Boy’ Drepaul will be leading the Guyanese charge and will be looking to extend on his winning streak, but with the likes of Barbados based Carl Liverpool, Rupert ‘Put’ Ramnauth, Daniel ‘Buckman’ Flores, Kevin Paul, Mark Vassey, Krishna Singh, Navin Ally, Mahendra Sukhoo, Nascimento, Michael Sancho, Prem Chandra, Winston Apadhu and Kevin Richmond are among those that will be showing off their wares. With two other top jockeys; Colin Ross and Paul Delph still injured those competing will be looking for another dominating performance.
Eight races are carded for the day with a hefty $6.5M being up for grabs. Most of the top stables with multiple entries will also be a part of the day’s proceedings. Those stables include Colin Elcock’s Delmur and P&P Syndicate Racing stable, Jagdeo Racing stable, Asrafalli racing stables, Rumour’s, Dennis DeRoop Simple Royal and Senior Council Marcel Crawford Racing stable all from the Eastern part of Berbice
Among the top stables from the Western Berbice and further afield are Shariff Racing stable, Habibulla, Jumbo Jet /Chattergoon s, Night Eyes, Mahaicony, Jagroop/ Jagmohan, Tony, Customs and Singh racing stables among others.
The events listed for the day are the feature B class race which will be going for a top prize of $1.2M with prize monies totaling over $2.2 over 1700M.
The other B class co-feature event will be going for 1000M for a winner’s money of $600,000.
Another Three Year old co-feature event is for Guyana and West Indies Bred Horses for the $500,000 top prize over 1500M.
Then there is the Two year old open event for Guyana and West Indies Bred Horses over 1000M for the $400,000 first prize. The F class event has $300,000 available for the winner over 1200 meters. The H class race will see the winner getting $200,000 over the 1000M distance.
The ‘I’ and lower animals over 1300M has a winners take of $150,000. The other event is for the animals classified I3 and lower over 1000M for a $120,000 first prize. Outstanding performers including top Jockey, top stable, top trainer will be presented with accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
So far over 75 horses have taken entry in what is expected to be an enthralling day of racing.
