Guyana’s leading Telephone Company, GT&T has continued to prove that

they are committed to the holistic development of sports across the board by maintaining their partnership with Guyana’s leading football tournament, Kashif & Shanghai which kicks off the 22nd edition Saturday at the once World famous, GCC Ground, Bourda.
Ahead of what is anticipated to be another exciting tournament which has attracted two overseas teams, GT&T’s visionary Chief Executive Officer Yog Mahadeo made the presentation of the $22M cheque to the entity which is also celebrating 22 years in the promotional business.
Mahadeo pointed out that GT&T is intertwined in the support and constant development of Guyanese and this was just a continuation of that commitment to see Guyanese and Guyana get better.
The hands on leader reminded the gathering that this knockout tournament which is also played in St. Lucia and has attracted some of the top Professional clubs from the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League as well as the Legendary Football Great Pele, has undoubtedly become a household name in Guyana, and as such, GT&T is honoured to be associated with the organisers for the 15th year in succession.
K&S Co-Directors Kashif Muhammad and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major were described by Mahadeo as friends of GT&T which recognizes the hard work being done by the duo to add to the standard of football in Guyana.
He noted that the tournament has developed to exciting levels over the years to the extent where patrons, fans and supporters from the Diaspora budget to be part of the yearend extravaganza pointing out that the event has added value to Guyana’s sports calendar.
Mahadeo took the opportunity to state that GT&T has made tremendous investments in football this year, reminding of the initial hosting of the innovative FastBall tournament.
Muhammad expressed gratitude to GT&T for its continued confidence and support over the past 15 years, pointing out that they have played a significant role in nurturing and building the tournament to what it is today.
Twenty teams will be battling for the top prize of One Pound of Gold sponsored by Aruwai Enterprise Inc., the runner-up team will collect a cheque for $1,000,000, while the 3rd and 4th placed teams will pocket $500,000 and $300,000 respectively. The Most Valuable Player will receive a motorcycle.
The 20 competing teams are Caribbean United, Caledonia AIA, Pele, Western Tigers, Bakewell Topp XX, Milerock, Netrockers, Amelia’s Ward United, Winners Connection, BV Triumph United, Victoria Kings, Bakewell Buxton Stars, Den Amstel, Seawall United, New Amsterdam United, Rosignol United, Mill Ballers, Timehri Panthers, Kuru Kururu Warriors, and Grove Hi-Tec.
