Guyana Coach says players disappointed
Heavy rain in Trinidad has left most of the cricket grounds on that Island waterlogged resulting in the Regional under-17 cricket competition scheduled for this month being postponed.
Yesterday the planned practice match for the Guyana under-17 team at DCC was not played and the national squad led by Albion left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, broke camp yesterday afternoon.
National under-17 Coach, Gavin Nedd, told Kaieteur News that the players were all hyped up for the tournament and in high spirits, adding that his charges were disappointed after putting in much hard work over the last few weeks.
The 39-year old former off-spinner, who took 29 wickets from 14 First-Class matches for Guyana between 1994 and 2000, said he received a phone call yesterday from Trinidad informing that some grounds were under water due to the rain in the twin-Island Republic.
Nedd, a DCC player who has one five-wicket haul for Guyana at four-day level, says the players will return to camp early next year since he was told that the tournament could be played just after the Caribbean Cup t20 tournament.
It is also understood that the Trinidad leg of the Caribbean Cup t20 tournament scheduled to begin on January 9 could be shifted to Antigua due to the high cost of rent for the Queens Park Oval before the second stage of the competition is held in Barbados. (Sean Devers)
