Dec 05, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
I am a die hard supporter of the PPP like many other Guyanese but when those at the top make statements and do things to hurt us it is time someone alerted the hierarchy of the PPP/C of their shortfalls. And yes Mr. Robert Persaud it is your comments on channel 11’s 6:00pm news of yesterday (Friday, December 02, 2011) that has triggered this letter.
While I dearly trust the President elect, I suggest it is time for him to start his clean up and he should start immediately with the selection of his cabinet and ministers.
It is an indictment to say that the electors were too complacent because they have a good life under the PPP/C Government so they ignore the need to vote or took voting for granted believing that the PPP will win and which resulted in the PPP/C’s loss of more than 15000 votes. This is not the era when Guyanese vote blindly at the request of political parties.
Guyanese have weighed the actions, the performance, the corruption, the favoritism, the insecurity, the discrimination suffered, the breakdown of stalls and homes, and the allocation of contracts and to contractors of questionable characters/performance, etc.
It is unfortunate that the PPP/C took its supporters for granted and thought that they would forget the misconduct of Ministers discriminating in the distribution of house lots, with business men getting galore house lots so that they can sell back and for their personal gain while Guyanese down the ladder are given hose lots way beyond their reach in location.
Numerous complaints were made against individuals in positions in many parts of the country and I wish to cite a specific individual in Enmore who, through the PPP/C made himself ‘king’ even if it meant terrorizing the citizens in the community yet no one from the hierarchy in the government or the PPP/C paid attention.
The result is that those affected turned to the A.F.C and then Mr. Nandalall PPP/C MP went to Enmore to tell the people during the campaign trail that it is dangerous to support the AFC because they will give their support in Parliament to the APNU. That is the bitter truth we now have to live with all because the PPP/C failed to heed the complaints of its supporters and at the grass root level.
Guyanese refused to vote and/ or support the PPP/C because they have encroached upon the livelihood of its citizens. The sugar workers have shown what they could do by their votes. The AFC taking a sizeable amount of votes from the PPP support base is a clear indication that the Guyanese are dissatisfied with the administration of the PPP/C.
More than 100,000 electors refused to go to the poll for various reasons. At the last moment Mansoor Nadir’s intervention caused a split of the TUF giving support to the AFC resulting in the loss of the Region 8 seat of AFC.
Mr. Robert Persaud has the opportunity to analyse the SOPs for the party’s support base against the voters’ and he will get the figure of the thousands who did not vote in the PPP strong holds.
As a people we have gone through tremendous humiliation at the hands of persons in key positions who were put in there to act on the behalf of the Government and for you to make a statement saying that we were too complacent and took our votes for granted, believing that the PPP will win is like rubbing salt to the wounds Mr. Robert Persaud.
Last but not least, I think Mr. Jagdeo contributed to Guyanese disgust with the PPP/C when he went forefront in the campaign trials to ‘cuss’ and abuse every politician, businessman, etc, whom he had in mind.
That was so disgusting, perhaps he thought that it was his last chance to castigate those whom he had in mind, as he is leaving, without giving a thought or care with how his conduct would affect the PPP/C at the General and Regional Elections.
I sincerely wish that the new President will acknowledge that it is not gifts of solar panels, outboard engines, tractors, chain saws, computers, 8 percent increase in salaries at the last moment, that earns votes but fair distribution of the resources of the country so that ever community is properly monitored and cared for under the respective individuals of integrity, uplifting the standard of living of every Guyanese, taking necessary actions against officials when complaints are made etc. Make the change now or the next time around we may be out!
I urge Mr. Ramotar to prepare for a rough road in parliament since the AFC is seeking to make him speaker of the House, thus avoiding him crossing the floor or accepting any position the PPP/C may offer him, therefore it would be wise to choose your slate after thorough consideration.
Very Best wishes to His Excellency President Donald Ramotar and the PPP/C- let progress continue.
Anand Narine
