AK-47, M-70 magazines, ammo found in Buxton house

Police are on the hunt for a Buxton resident who fled his home early yesterday morning, leaving behind two rifle magazines and five rounds of ammunition.
The magazines and ammunition, which were recovered by a party of policemen, are compatible with the M-70 and AK-47 assault rifles.
The discovery points to the fact that there may still be high-powered weapons in the hands of persons in the once volatile East Coast Demerara village, which had been a haven for criminals a few years ago.
The police were responding to a report that the man who is known to them as Sherlock Bentick called RIP, had threatened to kill a woman with whom he had an altercation.
This was around 02:45 hours yesterday.
When they arrived on the scene they were directed to a house at Middle Walk Buxton where they carried out a search and found the items.
And while there, the police received another tip off about a man who was preparing to travel into the interior with a quantity of drugs.
As the police approached the man he was seen stashing something under a bed.
The ranks searched the man’s 69 Middle Walk, Buxton house and unearthed one kilogram and 46 grams of marijuana.
He was arrested and is expected to appear before an East Coast Demerara Magistrate today.
