….says was responding to malicious lies being peddled by NCN
Alliance for Change Chairman, Khemraj Ramjattan, says that it was the malicious lies being peddled by the National Communications Network and the inability of the People’s Progressive Party Civic to reign in the aggravating reports that caused him to not attend the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Ramotar as Head of State.
Ramjattan has asserted that his party will remain an independent party.
According to reports the state-owned National Communication Network in Berbice, where the AFC had a significant number of crossover votes from the once dominant People’s Progressive Party, has been reporting that AFC is now in bed with A Partnership for National Unity.
According to Ramjattan, the state-owned media has been carrying reports by several senior key PPP members who have been lambasting voters that their vote for the AFC was one for APNU.
Ramjattan insists that the AFC remains an independent party and will use its voice and votes in the House of Assembly to move Guyana forward in a consensual way.
“I have not sold out anybody,” Ramjattan asserted adding that the slanderous statements being peddled can hurt his reputation and his party.
“I am not in bed with APNU,” he said.
Ramjattan said that he was attempting to make contact with both Ramotar, the Head of State, and Robert Persaud who was the party’s Campaign Manager, but to no avail and as such decided to not attend the swearing in ceremony.
Following the announcement of the Election Results Persaud had berated some of the supporters who did not turn out to vote. He accused them of costing the party the working majority in the National Assembly.
Following the announcement of the results Persaud in chiding those who traditionally supported the party but this year did not vote, said, “Those of you, our supporters who did not go out to vote simply because you felt our party’s victory was a foregone conclusion now recognize how close this indifference came to nearly destroying all the gains made since 1992.”
He added, “It might almost have been the last free and fair election you would have experienced had the worst outcome been realized…The results of the general election 2011 while victorious are indeed a disappointment but they are also a timely reminder to all and sundry of what indifference almost cost you and your country.”
