…singing Pandit given lifeline
Fans of the local hit show, the GT&T Jingles and Song Competition, will have to wait a few days for the Bollywood finals which have been postponed amidst elections activities and tensions.
According to organizers of that segment of the competition which has been growing in popularity, they have been receiving numerous calls, Facebook messages and mail, asking for the finals to be postponed.
Yesterday, on his Facebook page, Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), Yog Mahadeo, confirmed that the event has been postponed.
“We have carefully evaluated your comments and the many emails and calls. Please be informed that the Bollywood Finals are postponed from Sunday (today). We will announce new date soon.”
The English finals segment of the show has already been held with 10 persons, an impatient Linden, awaiting the results which are expected to be held in a grand finale later this month.
The top 10 for Jingle and Song BOLLYWOOD segment, heading into the finals are B24-Chait Singh “Bunty’ Mohanlall; B21-Chavela Rampersaud; B16-Christina Inshanally; B9-Gail Ann Singh; B5-Gowradai Pooran; B1-Joel Pharous; B25-Kamal Rattan; B2-Lielawattie Budram; B11-Prakash Sadaram; B20-Somdatt Ramessar.
Pharous, 22, is an Accounts Clerk at Demerara Shipping; Budram, a Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Pooran, 25, a teacher at Soesdyke Primary, and 15-year-old Balika Seenarine, a New Amsterdam Multilateral student.
Singh, 24, is employed at the Dr. Sugrim Private Medical Firm; Ramessar, the Food Bank Manager at the National AIDS Programme Secretariat and Rampersaud, 22, a singer with the Caribbean Hotshots Band. Rattan, 18, is a student at Global Technology.
The competition, which saw auditions across the country, attracted hundreds of would-be singer, some colorful, others talented with many tearful exits.
GT&T has put two cars up for grabs, which will be going to the winner of the Bollywood segment and the other to the victor of the English side of the competition.
Contestants in the finals of the both segments will also be receiving Blackberry phones.
This year, GT&T has taken the show to another level after several years of an “okay” competition.
In addition to an aggressive public relations campaign, the telephone company also laced its team with lots of well-known, colourful characters including Charmaine Blackman and talk show host, Joel Ghansham.
