Expressing relief at the announcement of the elections results, Alliance For Change (AFC) Presidential Candidate Khemraj Ramjattan said yesterday, that he is prepared to work with the various parties in developing the country, since all of the manifestos had commonalities.
“I am happy that we have what we had projected… that it is going to be a balance of power in favour of the AFC which has emerged in the final results,” Ramjattan said at the AFC’s Fourth Street Campbellville headquarters.
He thanked all his supporters but expressed a twinge of disappointment. Ramjattan said that he had felt that the party would have done better. However, the “politics of the day” and the massive divide in the country prevailed and persisted, he added.
He continued, “We would have to work harder for reconciliation and harmony. In any event, I respect the process and indicate to all our supporters and other party supporters to let us utilize this opportunity to ensure that there be peace, calm and tranquility in our land.”
Ramjattan said that he hopes that the PPP is going to work together in Parliament with opposition parties to place the country on the right trajectory, since there are a large number of various issues to be addressed. There are issues such as governance, as well as the fact that a number of Bills have to be passed.
Adding that the AFC leadership is willing to bring a national unity Government, Ramjattan said the party would like to propose various developmental Bills and issues pertaining to good governance.
“We can fix this country if we stick to the promises we made at the level of our manifesto and action plan…Ramotar will be put to the task for the commitment he made,” Ramjattan stated.
