A massive fire seared through three homes, including a business, in the Central Crabwood Creek area (Ball field Square) early yesterday morning.
According to reports out of the area, the fire started from popular Corentyne businessman, Rishi Gamandie’s business, and except for one, none of the buildings had occupants therein. All of the owners, except Gamandie, are currently residing overseas.
Two of the buildings were completely gutted while the third was burnt half way. The fire started around 02:00 hrs from Gamandie’s residence then proceeded north to one Mr Wagon’s building, then further north to one Mr Amzad’s residence. All of the homes were completely furnished.
In addition to the multi- million dollar losses, 2 vehicles, a Titan and Wrangler jeep were parked below one of the buildings, and those were destroyed too.
There was an occupant in Mr Amzad’s house but he managed to escape.
Members of the community started a bucket brigade after the fire started. A Fire tender from the Springlands Fire Station arrived but, according to one source, “the engine was not starting” and “the truck developed some problems”. The source also revealed that “water was inadequate”. Fire tenders from the New Amsterdam Fire Station, nearly 2 hours away, were also summoned.
