Three passengers traveling in a Toyota Carina PJJ 3482 are lucky to be alive today after hitting one lamp pole before careening into another at Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara Public Road. The accident occurred on Friday shortly after midnight.
The driver, who was not injured, recounted that they were heading to Georgetown, when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction swerved into their lane forcing him to swerve into the other lane.
This sent the vehicle out of control causing it to hit the lamp pole and spin several times before halting some 30 feet from another lamp pole. The driver of the other vehicle did not stop to assist.
The two other passengers, David and Kim, were taken to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital, Diamond. They were not seriously injured.
However, the lamp pole bore the brunt of the accident. The lamp pole was shattered and the light it supported splintered.
Apparently, the occupants began their journey Thursday night at the University of Guyana. They took one of their friends home to Timehri and were on their way to Georgetown where they reside when the accident occurred.
