Following the commissioning of the Synthetic Volleyball Floor at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, yesterday morning, players from across Guyana will now be able to enjoy and develop their skills using the correct indoor surface.
Present at yesterday’s symbolic activity was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony; President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF), Mr. Lenox Shuffler; Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Sports, Alfred King; the Inter-Guiana Games 2011 female team apart from Secondary School students.
GVF President Shuffler stated during his remarks that with the commissioning of the floor at the popular venue which usually host’s various sporting activities, Volleyball players will now be able to display their unique skills without being injured from the rigid surface they were previously accustomed to.
In his remarks, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony declared that with the new Synthetic Floor, Guyana is now second to none.
Minister Anthony also highlighted that Volleyball will now be redeveloped in schools since it was hindered for the past few years within the schools’ curriculum.
Dr. Anthony also spoke about the developments the Ministry has made to the many sports facilities throughout the country, informing that they have even added a new dimension to their support to sport with the procurement of a grass cutter that will be on offer freely to community grounds that needs maintenance.
All this he said is a part of the Ministry’s plan to enhance the development of sports nationwide with the aim of being on par with other international countries.
The commissioning ended with a demonstration of the game of Volleyball by the Junior National Inter-Guiana Games female team which represented Guyana in Suriname recently along with the Junior members of National Club Champion Team, Young Achievers.
