Dear Mr. Editor,
From the presidencies of Mr. C. B Jagan to Mr. B. Jagdeo, the PPP had numerous opportunities to change the Burnhamite constitution. Every PPP President has exercised the power and dictatorial impositions afforded by the Burnhamite constitution on every government related entity.
Most PPPites do not think that this rule of dictatorial impositions is against the will of the Guyanese people when their PPP Govt exercised the powers and abuses afforded by Burnhamite constitution. They (PPPites) now regularly rehash the PNC past with absolute disconnection from realities of the present.
Despite all the evidence of the harm inflicted on Guyana, there is no talk of changing the Burnhamite constitution, at least from the PPP and its Presidential candidate to reflect the will of the Guyanese people.
As a result of the current PPP and past PNC continuous and ingrained dictatorial governances, we have arrived at several positions of no return which if allowed to proceed in the PPP fashion, will probably make our chances of having an economic and feasible future of Guyanese society out of reach. This is not the people.
There are numerous positions or existing conditions to dwell, elaborate and write about— from corruption, crime, education, narco-state and failed state, to a ruling class of Guyanese connected to the PPP who have a greater chance to accumulate more personal wealth at the expense of the country.
Guysuco is a government corporation that serves to illustrate the weak foundations of some of these morbid conditions and settings in the form of the Mr. Donald Ramotar (current PPP Presidential candidate), Dr. Nanda Gopaul, Mr. Navin Chadarpal and Mr. Komal Chand.
Most sugars worker and their families have come to the conclusions that these PPP figures were in charge of GuySuCo and it was under their control and guidance that the industry has gone to nearly unprecedented low in all phase of its operations. Their current record clearly shows that these same men sent most sugar workers and their families to poverty lines while all four men enjoy lavish life styles as enjoyed by most top members of the PPP.
Would sugar workers and their families want any of these four men to continue be in charge of their livelihoods and the Government of Guyana?
Would or should anyone with the record of Mr. Donald Ramotar even consider running for President of Guyana knowing that he has failed a large section of the working people (in particular the sugar workers and their families) of Guyana?
By all indications, he would carry on this same mismanagement style to the Office of the President? Are Guyanese willing to accept Guyana as another Guysuco?
Mr. Ramotar, Dr. Gopaul, Mr. Chandarpal and Mr. Chand (RGCC) were afforded the opportunities to make their voices heard about the overwhelming despotic rule of President Jagdeo, yet not a peep or tweet. Instead these men embraced it. Maybe they were so busy sucking sugar cane that they could not blow the whistle!
Surely, a Director, a Chairman, two labour union leaders must know that GuySuCo does not have the facilities (machinery, human industrial and technical experiences, lab facilities etc.) to run an efficient GuySuCo and needed to demand from the President Jagdeo that these be afforded for both current and future development of the corporation. If these men cannot see the need for this now, why would they or Mr. Donald Ramotar see the ultimate value of this in the future.
If he is blind now who will expect him to be suddenly and miraculously enlightened if he gets anywhere close to the Presidency? President Jagdeo saw no need to equip UG with proper Science and Engineering facilities and personnel in order to have technical people to run our major industries (mining – bauxite and agricultural – sugar). Why would Donald Ramotar and company see the need for it in the future?
He has already promised to continue the ‘enlightened’ polices of President Jagdeo.
When Mr. C. Ram (accountant/ lawyer) made available his audit services to GuySuCo, any reasonable person interested in transparency, efficiency, production improvement in management and business acumen would have welcomed the chance to engage with Mr. Ram to turn the corporation around. As usual these four silent gentlemen declined an audit through another ill-equipped person Minister Persaud.
Sugar workers and the Guyanese can therefore expect the same from a Mr. Ramotar, as President of Guyana.
If Mr. Ramotar and Dr. N Gopaul were elusive in protecting workers rights and economic interests then it is puzzling to understand what Mr. Chandarpaul and Mr. Komal Chand stands and/or stood for. Workers rights and economic livelihoods have deteriorated during their watch.
Through these same four gentlemen of the ruling PPP, sugar workers have less, earn less and have less to look forward to and their children have lost most of the possibilities to higher education and better futures. With a failing sugar industry there are chances sooner rather later they will descend in a deeper state of poverty.
Would any sugar worker or Guyanese want Mr. Donald Ramotar to run the Government of Guyana?
