Guyanese Bodybuilder Sylvan Gardner returned from competing in the Musclemania World competition at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas where he faced tough opposition.
Gardner informed that he finished 7th out of the 10 competitors in his Lightweight category, which was very competitive; over 200 athletes took part in the show. He disclosed that this was one of his toughest competitions in the 11-plus years he has been in the sport.
Questioned on some of the setbacks he faced resulting in his final placing, Gardner noted that it was a tough lineup, and the last time around all the musclemen in his category were grouped together.
He informed that heading into this event he decided to put on a bit more mass. But once at the event the competitors were placed in two categories, light and heavy putting him at a slight disadvantage.
Guyana’s most successful athlete at the CAC level, disclosed that he needs to put some more width on his upper frame, mainly back and shoulders, and go leaner the next time around as he aims to finish among the top three.
He noted that he has been on the trot in competition for the past 11 years and plans to take a one year break from bodybuilding but will begin to focus on powerlifting which would aid him in building muscles on the body areas he plans to work on.
Gardner thanked those who assisted him with sponsorship to make the journey and made special mention of his boss, Ryan Shivraj of Buddy’s Gym.
