The National School of Music, along with the handing over of steel pans, was commissioned yesterday by the Minister of Culture at the school’s location on Brickdam and College Road, Georgetown.
The ceremony included musical renditions from a steel pan duet, a violin duet/solo and lastly a piano piece as befitting the opening of a music school.
According to the Ministry, the school was a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Health. Other than providing music lessons to interested students, the building will also be used as an HIV testing site.
Students will have access to different musical instruments and also be taught theory. Examinations are also included in the syllabus.
