Fifteen contestants remain but only 10 of them will have another shot at the keys of a car and a lucrative contract with the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company.
Tonight, during the Results Show, the 15 will know which one of them will advance to the December 4th Finals of the Bollywood segment of the GT&T Jingle and Song Competition
at the National Cultural Centre.
The competition has suddenly amassed a huge following, mainly because of the telephone company’s massive campaign to heighten awareness; a line of well-known personalities for the judges, and contestants, who have over the weeks, won the hearts of viewers. It is Guyana’s talent at its best.
While over the past seven years, the competition only catered for an English segment, GT&T added another part – ‘Bollywood’ from which a winner will also have to emerge.
On Wednesday, the Final of the English segment was held at the National Cultural Centre but the contestants will have to wait until mid-December for the results when the grand finale show is to be aired.
According to Coordinator of the Bollywood segment, Anita Balram, for the Bollywood finals on December 2nd, contestants will choose five of their favourite songs and will be tasked with composing a medley to be sung on that night.
“This is where we give the contestants the opportunity to choose songs of their preference and they will be singing their favourites.”
Songs will be mixed by the Shakti Strings Orchestra, which will be playing live on the night of the finals.
“We expect that final for the Bollywood segment to include exciting dances and guest performances.”
The top 10 contestants, from both segments, will receive free BlackBerry handsets and service from GT&T.
The telephone company also has plans for the contestants before the grand finale when the winners are announced.
“After the finals, contestants will be making TV and radio appearances to promote themselves and encourage voting until the grand finale which is scheduled for sometime after Christmas and before New Year. This is where we will announce the winner, hand over the keys of the car to the winner and BlackBerries among other prizes.”
Among the contestants remaining in the Bollywood segment is Jeol Pharous, 22, an Accounts Clerk at Demerara Shipping; Leilawattie ‘Seema’ Budram, a Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; 24-year-old Balram Persaud, a Pandit; Gowradai Devi Pooran, 25, a Teacher at Soesdyke Primary and 19-year-old Ian Hardat – an Internal Auditor at Edward B. Beharry and Company.
Also waiting to know her faith tonight is 15-year-old Balika Seenarine, a New Amsterdam Multilateral student; Gail Ann Singh, 24, who is employed at the Dr. Sugrim Private Medical Firm; Ritesh Tularam, 30, an Inspector of the Ministry of Education; Somdatt Ramessar, the Food Bank Manager at the National AIDS Programme Secretariat and Chavela Rampersaud, 22, a singer with the Caribbean Hotshots Band. Also remaining in the top 15 in the Bollywood segment are Kamal ‘Andy’ Rattan, 18, a student at Global Technology; Bibi Khan, 25, a mother of two and 15-year-old Parshnarine Hansraj in the finals.

Wait a minute, Guyana turn India now?
How dumb! Why would Guyanese want to emulate Indians? WHY? I have been to India and worked there both in the corporate and ministerial capacities, that place and those people are low class, thieves! Yes! They live worst than animals who defecate on the street, don’t bathe for weeks, and lie, steal and will sell their own mother for less than a dollar! Why would anybody pay any attention to these people and that country?
They have cheated the corporation I have worked with and also the ministry I have. WAKE UP! You are Guyanese and have your own culture, and heritage, there is no need to emulate indians, or anybody else…
lol tell me about it
