Betsy Ground residents threaten ‘No street, no vote’
Residents of Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice, a well-known stronghold of the ruling People’s

Progressive Party/Civic are threatening to withhold their vote to press demands for proper roads.
The residents have issued a serious warning to the ruling party and that if their street is not repaired, they will not vote for the PPP, not anymore.
“We have complained enough and we are fed up. Election time is near and we know what we will do.”
Residents of the area which is made up of a large percentage of sugar workers have increasingly been showing their dissent towards the government, whom they have staunchly been supporting in the past.
“This is eye pass and they boasting and shouting about how much million they spent and doing. Look the condition of this street and if it rains is a belly ache, you can’t just use the street,” one resident said.
“We did so much for the PPP and are being treated like dogs. This is the only village in the entire East Canje that don’t get proper water supply. We got to pump water and that cost electricity. Sometimes we don’t even get water. So no street, no vote for the PPP anymore,” another prominent Betsy Ground resident told this newspaper.
The residents had nailed a sign stating their position just before the PPP held a meeting at the very spot
